Yoho National Park, BC, Canada
"Yoho" is a Cree expression of awe and wonder. It is a place just west of the continental divide with 28 peaks over
3000M in height. It's rivers run west over spectacular waterfalls and natural bridges. Almost any mountain is beautiful.
Kicking Horse river starts
at the northeastern of
the park, meets many
branches and runs west
near Hwy 1. Passing
through the shallows in
the Field area and
comes to the Natural
Bridge.
It used to come over
these rocks as a waterfall
millions of years ago.
Some softer part of rock
being eroded just behind
these hard front rocks, so
the water went under and
made a hole to exit from
front. This leave the
original bed rock of the
fall a dry "bridge". As the
hole becomes greater
and no longer support the
bridge, it will collapse.

The power of water!
A piece of hard rock
before the bridge.
Eight Kilometers north
of the natural bridge is
Emerald like. Like the
jewel set in the peaks,
emitting serenely.
The President
towering over Emerald
Lake.

A young couple showed
up in swimming suits.
"Splash", then "Cold",,,,
He picked her up and
disappeared into the
cottages.
South end /exit of Lake Emerald.
Mountains behind the
resort cottages.
Emerald Lake
There were swallows
plucking insects from
the lake. But no other
birds were seen,
perhaps too cold for the
fish?
Field
The village of Yoho National Park.
It has two or three streets, a general store, a few B&Bs, a Hostal, a motel, a rail station and a lot of
mountains around it.
Canada Pacific Railway
has a station in Field. It's
rails are parallel to Hwy
1 with Kicking Horse
River running in between.
Second Ave.
The Gold Roofed
house is a General
Store doubled as a
restaurant. The night
we arrived, the Dinning
room of the hotel is
booked for a private
party. The restaurant
was full. Sandwiches
and soup from this
general store were
dinner.
From the window of my
suit, Mt. Duchesnay is
always changing, yet
always picturesque.
Mt Dennis stretches
along the south of Field.
My windows were under
the Sign "Inn".
Field has one water
tower. It has wood strips
covering the center
post. There were black
spots on the strips.
Curiously I saw things
fly in and out of them.

Ah! They were homes of pigeons.
Early morning, the
Burgess mountains to
the north of Field was
just waking up.
I saw pictures of
Canadian Rockies
radiating gold. This is
my closest to it.
Yoho Valley
East of Field a few Kilometers left turn onto the road through Yoho Valley. It is a beautiful drive. Besides the
beautiful mountains, there are merge of Yoho and Kicking Horse Rivers, the Upper Spiral Tunnel Site and the
magnificent Takakkaw Fall.

The President closer.
To the north of Field,
lies Burgess Mountain
range.
The Kicking Horse
River(right, from East)
meets Yoho River(left,
from north), the
confluent is called
Kicking Horse River
flowing to the west.
Kicking Horse River is
very clear. Because there
were lakes upstream the
turbid silty particles were
settled in the lakes.
While Yoho River was
turbid, for it ran from the
mountains to here has
little chance to rest,
carrying the erosion
along the way.
The Upper Spiral Tunnel was a spiral of racks that changed direction 228 degrees in a very small radium and
engineering ingenuity. The tracks were no longer in use and were removed. The lower Spiral Tunnel were now in
use closer to Hwy 1. There were lots illustration and a distant view.
Takakkaw Falls
It means "It is Magnificent" in Cree. It plunges 254 meters to the Yoho River and is the second highest Waterfall in
Canada. It's water came from Daly Glacier which is supplied by the Waputic Icefield near the Continental Divide.
Moss grows on the side
facing the confluent
point.
So are the lichen.
More magnificent
mountains.
An interesting piece of
rock with orange specks
stuck on the surface.
Probably from the layer
above.
The crow tugged on this
man's sleeve,
apparently showing how
disappointed that he is
only interested in taking
picture not feeding.

landed and runs away.
