Promised Land State Park, PA
|
Promised Land State Park is located west of the Delaware Gap, between Interstate Hwy 80 and 84 and off Hwy 390.Promised Land
State Park encompasses 2,971acres and the Bruce Lake Natural Area, 2,845 acres is managed by Delaware State Forest. About 50
miles of multi-use trails provide many special opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts.
Many lakes on the state park are relics of the glaciers. They are surrounded by tall conifers and broad leaf trees. It is surprisingly
cooler than New Jersey and no mosquitoes. The bathroom and shower are excellent. Each camp site has leveled raised area for two
tents, picnic table and campfire pit. Some sites have electricity. This late July weekend, all campsites were booked.
We had fun canoing, and hiked the conservation island. Bruce Lake Natural Area should be fun to explore, especially at migration
season.
Many aquatic plants are in bloom, Bur Reed, Pickerel, Fragrant Water Lily, Yellow Pond lily, and Swamp Smartweed.
At the swimming beach.
Near the swimming beach, a napping pair.
Another Mother and baby pair.
One from the previous brood.
Rhododendron Campground in its quiet morning.
Most campers are still in their tents.
Sign posted in the camp ground. Applied to the State Park. Trapping is allowed in the Bruce Lake Natural Area.
The from building houses a posting board. The back, larger building is the very clean and automated
bathrooms and showers. Dish washing and laundromat are in the back.
The rocks around the campsites are
so lovely. Here's one.
Here's another.
The clump of grass on the rotting stump, reminded me about some grass in the novel
Red Chamber Dream, doesn't it?
絳珠仙草!
I was too chicken to bring my camera to canoe practice, otherwise more blooming aquatic
plants could be shown. This is Swamp Smartweed, Poligonum coccineum.
