Lower Antelope Canyon Navajo Country (near Page, AZ)
|
The Lower Antelope slot canyon is a crack in the Navajo sandstone on ground level. When it rains,
water with gushes through the crevasse and runs down the Colorado River couple miles to the
north, carrying sand and eroding the rock into smooth, graceful striations. Not only the shape is
pleasing to behold, the reflected light from the sandstone is in hue of coral to purple not detected
by naked eye but only recorded in the camera. It is this mystery really attracted photographers
world over to make a recording of their own. Long salivated over the images in Photography
magazines, I too arrived. 6/6/2010. The images are presented sequentially.
Passing the Navajo generating station, we came to the parking and booth for Lower Antelope
Canyon. After a short wait we were lead by a young guide Eli, a very good guide,to the entrance a
few yards away, a crack in the rock. Stepping down on a steel ladder, we entered the first
chamber.

Except for the diffractive blue, the following two were what
naked eye sees.
f/5,1/72.5 sec
f/8, 1/39 Sec. When I moved the Aperture to 8. the smallest
aperture I can get in the canyon, more likely I get colorful results.
Crows are common. Natives consider them guardians of the canyons.
Photos were taken with Nikon Coolpix P90, aperture priority, mostly set at f/8.
