Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area

At Moheken Outdoor
Center, there is a big
glacial lake, dotted
with white waterlily. An
old couple took their
morning swim before
canoeing in the lake.
Such tranquility.
Tiger Swallowtail
Black Swallowtail. Surviving the broken tail.

Blue Mountain Lake, a
glacial lake
Red mushrooms, looks
poisonous to me. Bit it
was nibbled on; the fact
that it was not finished,
may indicate that
something change the
mind of the animal,
either it got too sick to
continue eating or gave
up after the ill-effect
took place.
Clasping-leaved Dogbane,
Beautiful, isn't it?
A better specimen of the
Black Swallowtail.
Cabbage White on Spotted
Knapweed. This thistle-liked
plant is an invader, compete
with the natives for habitat.
On the way to Crater
Lake, near Appalachian
Trail, there's an
overlook toward the
lower plains of New
Jersey.
Peaceful Crater Lake,
an glacial lake also.
A place families relax
and swim. What a nice
way to learn swimming.
Crossing the river at Dingman bridge to the Pennsylvania
side, we pass this Silverthread Falls first,
Half a mile board walk
later, the Dingman
Falls. This is the lower
falls in cascade.
The full view of Dingman falls,
If you climb some 200 steps up, you can view the
upper section close up.
View of the Boardwalk and Dingman Falls viewing area and
the upper falls.

Falls
Left section of the
Upper Factory Falls.
Lower Factory Falls
comes to a wide pool.
A pavillion facing it is
perfect for a rest to
soak up the beautiful
scenery. This day
there was a wedding
reception.
On the other side of the
pavillion is the Fulmer
Falls.
Unexpectedly, there is a lower Fulmer Falls that runs into a
big pool. There's another water further down stream. We'll
have to explore that next time. We ran out of time to visit the
Raymondskill Falls, Probably in the fall when leaves change
color, it would be beautiful to visit the Bushkill Falls in addition.
Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is located at the northwest of New Jersey and across the Delaware
River, part of Pennsylvania. What distinctive about this gap is the beauty of the landscape. Here the river twists in a
tight "S" curve through the ridge at Kittatinny Mountain. This area became a resort area in the 19th century. People
remark on the quality of the air and coolness of the breezes, while cities simmered in the summer heat.
Besides the Gap, there are many beautiful glacial lakes and waterfalls. On 7/29/06 a group of friends took this short
trip to these "cool" spots and enjoyed the beautiful scenery and surprisingly a variety of Butterflies.
Further up, behind a
turn, another waterfall
roars before it tumbles
down to become the
visible Dingman Falls
from the boardwalk.
